ARAYAT- The residents in Barangay Cupang this town lauded the Department of Public Works and Highways for funding the construction of the slope protection of Arayat-Apalit set back levee Cupang section.
This came as DPWH executives recently bared that the said project was given at least P124-million budget to jumpstart the implementation after it was awarded to LR Tiqui construction.
"Magandang balita po ito para sa amin dahil totoo naman po talagang delikado na bahaging ito ng dike lalu na kapag umaapaw ang ilog. Wala po itong pinagkaiba doon sa Guemasan Dike dahil kapag tuluyan na itong bumagsak malaking bahagi ng probinsiya ang maaapektuhan," Ana Cortes, a resident here said.
The residents, through their barangay officials, earlier asked the public works to consider rehabilitating Cupang Dike otherwise the rest of the province will be constinously placed in danger.
They have also sought the assistance of Governor Lilia Pineda for the immediate rehabilitation of the scoured portion of the dike.
Earlier Orlando Salac, village chieftain here said there is a need to construct a 200-meter slope protection in their community.
