CANDABA – An eye specialist from the San Luis District Hospital (SLDH) yesterday conducted a free eye screening for the benefit of the indigent residents in this town.
Dr. Brando Santos, an ophthalmologist said the free eye consultation is formed to reach out poor patients from the barangays of Pasig, Lanang, Mandasig, Paralaya, Pescarodores, San Agustin and Bambang who usually visit him in the district hospital every Friday at SLDH.
Dr. Santos said free eye screening is aimed at bringing the eye health care program closer to the communities and residents who are suffering from poor eye sight due to different eye illnesses such as catarata, sligh glaucoma, among others.
Usually or most of the patients who suffer from poor eyesight are indigents who cannot afford to go hospital due to poverty.
To realize the activity, the clinic of Dr. Santos has coordinated with Joel Mapiles, provincial information officer of the province to facilitate the conduct of eye free screening in the municipality.
The free eye examination was held in the house of Mapiles in barangay Pasig which coincided with the latter’s birthday bash.
The ophthalmologist said, patients who will undergo cataract and other eye procedures and operations will not pay additional fees if they are currently active members of the PhilHealth Insurance.
