- A political supporter of a mayoralty bet here was arrested yesterday
by the local police for the alleged vote buying activity in Barangay
Mangga this town.
Superintendent Benjamin Medina, town's chief of police identified the suspect as Apolinario Dela Cruz, 51, married and resident of Barangay Dulong Ilog.
Dela Cruz is a supporter of mayoralty candidate Reynaldo "Busog" Sagum, a guest candidate of the Liberal Party, also a staunt supporter of 4th district congressional candidate Juan Pablo "Rimpy" Bondoc.
Recovered from the suspect's possession were two eco-handbags blue and brown in color with yellow "Busog" print in front.
The bags contain some 44 white mailing sealed envelops with at least three hundred pesos each inside.
Records show that the operations ensued following a report received by the police sub-station in Barangay Bahay Pare about the illegal activity.
Dela Cruz is now currently under the custody of the local police pending the filing of appropriate case before the office of the provincial prosecutor.
It can recalled that last week, a group of concerned citizens from 14 barangays in tagalog region here who identified themselves as members of the "Ako Ang Simula Movement" mostly women had condemned massive vote buying after they reported the same to the police sub-station in Barangay Bahay Pare allegedly being undertaken by some politicians in their respective communities.
Some 50 women then sought the assistance of the local police to put into record their complaint about the on-going of vote buying activity which according to them started late last week.
The complainants identified Bondoc as behind the vote buying activities in various localities in tagalog region.
