SAN LUIS - Several patients of the San Luis District Hospital (SLDH) branded the same as anti-poor health facility for failing to implement the directive of Governor Lilia Pineda to prioritize indigent Kampangan.
A certain Wilson from Candaba town, who was victim of road accident was brought to SLDH for immediate treatment around five in the morning last Saturday for treatment due to multiple injuries he sustained from the incident.
However, upon arrival to the hospital, he was asked by the nurse on duty if he has money to buy medicines for his treatment.
"Wala po kaming dalang pera dahil naaksidente lamang po kami. Hindi pa po alam sa amin ang nangyari," Leo Galang, a friend of Wilson, who brought the latter to the hospital replied.
With the lack of money in possession during that time, the hospital personnel refused treat Wilson despite knowing that he has bruises all over his body.
Wilson was not even entertained until after more than two hours when his friends and relatives came to assure payment of bills.
Galang recalled the nurse saying that the hospital has no medicines, antibiotics and anesthesia to treat Wilson.
"Ang nakaka inis lang pinabayaan nila ang pasyente kahit alam nilang masakit ang nararamdaman dahil sa tinamong sugat para kaming kawawa sa labas. Ayaw nila kaming pansinin dahil wala kaming dalang pera. Kung hindi pa dumating ang aming mga kasamahan ay hindi pa nila kami gagamutin," Wilson said in a phone interview.
On the issue of branded medicines
In a separate incident, Jennifer Manalastas, a mother for 8 month-old baby who was also previously confined at SLDH disclosed that doctors here are prescribing branded medicines ordinarily not available to hospital pharmacy.
"Minsan mayroon pinabiling gamot sa akin, wala daw nito sa loob ng hospital, ang sabi ng doctor bilhin kuna lang daw sa botika sa labas. Nagulat ako ng malaman ko ang presyo halos one thousand five hundred pesos eh limang daan lang ang dala ko nun. Tapos malaman ko na mayroon naman palang katumbas na generic na gamot na mabibili sa loob mismo ng hospital sa halagang seventy eight pesos lamang," Manalastas
No enough space for patients but more spacious offices for personnel
The provincial government has funded the construction of the two-storey building in front of SLDH and another extension on the old building to accommodate the growing number of indigent patients availing the health services here.
But still, patients in different rooms are overcrowded mixed with different illnesses.
However, it was learned that air conditioned and bigger rooms in the second floor of the new building are not available to patients as the same were exclusively intended for the hospital chief, department heads and other high ranking personnel.
