- This town chief of police yesterday claimed that police personnel
are now ready with the opening of the polling precincts and start of
the election processes today.
Superintendent Benjamin Medina, chief of police here, said that their mandate is to ensure the safe conduct of elections by preventing interested individuals and groups from interfering to the regular conduct of elections.
He added that aside from the regular police force, there is an additional number of police personnel augmented and deployed in the localities to further increase police visibility subject to certain limitations set by the Commission of Elections.
Medina assured Candabenios that the local police will be doing every thing within their authority to protect the credibility of the elections until the duly elected officials were proclaimed and sworn into office.
It can be noted earlier, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas, together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Director General Alan La Madrid Purisima launched Philippine National Police's (PNP's) oplan “Last Two Weeks.”
Under this initiative, an additional 30,000 personnel were deployed on election hotspots and other places to ensure a peaceful election. 18,000 are uniformed and full pledged PNP Personnel and 12,000 are PNP recruits who will be recalled from the training camps.
