ARAYAT – An official from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bureau of Mines and Geosciences bared that Mt. Arayat is still prone to landslide which may possibly happen during rainy season.
Engr. Noel Lacadin, chief geologist of the Mines and Geoscience Bureau confirmed that there is movement of huge stones on top of the mountain which could probably harm residents living at the foot of Mt. Arayat.
He noted that another landslide incident is expected to happen anytime with the downpour of heavy rains.
As this developed, he urged residents and officials not to establish communities within the danger zone to prevent the occurrence of any untoward incident compromising the safety and resources of the residents.
Lacadin recalled that the landslide incident happened in September 26, 2009 had claimed the lives of twelve residents in Barangay San Juan Bano here.
Mud flow with huge stones has gone down from the mountain while everybody is sleeping and has resulted to the devastation of the community.
He said this could have been prevented if the residents were barred from constructing residential houses inside the declared danger zone.
