CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Philippine Dental Association (PDA) Pampanga Chapter has started the "Dental Health Month" celebration in a simple ceremony held at the provincial capitol yesterday.
Dr. Josemarie Sandico, PDA-Pampanga Chapter president said that the celebration is aimed at strengthening public awareness on the importance of good oral health.
"Yung oral health natin ay karugtong ng ating general health kaya mahalaga na maka-create tayo ng awareness sa mga tao," he added.
Sandico explained that the celebration started as a National Dental Health Week but in February 24, 2004, it was expanded into a month-long celebration pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 559 signed by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
In relation to this, the group monitored for six moths the pupils in Simple Kids Learning Center situated in Sto. Domingo Lubao town wherein the latter were taught about the importance having good oral hygience.
The pupils through the help of their teachers upon the guidance of the public health dentists underogone regular drills on toothbrushing.
Of all the pupils, PDA-Pampanga Chapter presented at least eleven children who attained perfect oral hygiene after meeting standard set for the purpose.
Sandico encouraged concerned individuals and government agencies to reach out to more people in countryside particularly those with out access to dental services.
