Teens disregard call not to swim in Pampanga River

SAN LUIS - Some residents here and in neighboring towns disregarded the call of the local authorities not to swim in Pampanga River.

This came as half naked teenagers in Barangay Sta. Catalina in this town were observed having fun as they swim on the said  river.

It was also observed that some of the friends of these teenagers were drinking liquor in a place  near the embankment of Pampanga River.

In Candaba town, three individuals were spotted yesterday in the river along Barangay Buas near the suspension bridge wherein they likewise swim half naked. 

“Dito lang po kami sa gilid. Hindi naman kami pupunta sa Bandung gitna dahil alam naming delikado. Mainit lang kaya nagkayayaan lang kami na maligo sa ilog,” Peter (not his trae name), 14 and incoming second year student told Sun Star Pampanga in an interview.

 

Asked  if his parents allowed him to swim in Pampanga, “Tumakas lang  po kami. Hindi naman niya ako papayagan kapag nagpaalam ako eh,” he stated.

 

It can be recalled that the Pampanga Police Provincial Office earlier instructed police personnel assigned from the coastal municipalities to prohibit the residents from going into the river following the death of seven individuals due to drowning.

 

“Siguro dapat pati mga barangay officials dapat utusan na rin na magbantay sa kanilang mga kanya kanyang mga lugar konti lang kasi iyong mga pulis. Hindi nila kayang bantayan ang ating kailugan,” a concerned resident from Barangay Buas suggested.
