STA. ANA – Local folks in Barangay San Nicolas here had recently set a record breaking of at least 13 straight long hours of ‘Kuraldal.’
Kuraldal is a ritual non stop dance in major streets in the locality. It is usually for a good harvest and characterized by swaying and jumping to the beat of kuraldal music.

The event has attracted visitors and devotees from all walks of life which started at 7 in the evening and ended at around 8 in the morning the following day.
It was first held in Barangay San Nicolas in 1995. The people had been celebrating this ritual dance for at least 19 years now.
The success of the event was attributed on the full cooperation of the concerned Barangay officials, Barangay Pastoral Council among others.
Report have it that ‘Kuraldal’ is Pampanga’s counterpart of the Obando’s fertility dance except that former is not only dance for good health but also a dance for couple who wanted to have babies.
The kuraldal practice has also spilled over to other Pampanga towns like Betis, in which the 24 handpicked participants are expected to teach the dance to their children.
