BFAR to distribute 4.8-M tilapia fingerlings

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) recently disclosed that 4.8-million tilapia fingerlings are scheduled to be distributed to the fishfarmers.

Stephen Arlo Lapid, a BFAR agriculturist told the provincial elected officials and other stakeholders that some 320 fishfamers in various coastal municipalities in the province are set to receive their free tilapia firgerlings.

BFAR provides quality fingerlings to ensure steady supply and meet the production demand of fishfarmers.

Lapid said that the provision of fingerlings to fisherfolk will lessen their cost of inputs.

He added through this initiative there will be an expected increase on income as a result of additional fisheries production in the localities.

Meanwhile, BFAR is likewise set to distribute 50 units of gillnet and 50 units of crab pots to some 55 fishermen in Sasmuan town.

The provision of resource and environment friendly fishing gears is in support to municipal initiative to provide livelihood to the concerned sector.
