Gov deputizes BHWs for peace and order

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- Governor Lilia G. Pineda has deputized the active involvement of the barangay health workers (BHWs) to assist in the maintenance of peace and order as they look after the health and educational needs of the residents in their respective barangays.

This developed as some 855 BHWs from Candaba, Apalit, Masantol, Macabebe, Minalin, Sto. Tomas, San Luis, San Simon and Guagua joined the kick-off activity of the Women’s Month Celebration this March prepared by the provincial government.

She asked them to be the vanguard of peace and order through educating the residents to stay calm and avoid too much involvement in the campaign of political rivals.

She said that BHWs should be apolitical and if possible, she asked them to entertain and welcome all political candidates who will conduct campaign rallies irrespective of their political affiliation.

“Let us show to the higher authorities that we are a peaceful province and we don’t deserve to be in the watch list order of the Commission on Election (Comelec) not only during the election period but throughout the years,” Pineda added.

She also reiterated her call in the maintenance of peace and order especially during the election period.
Gov Pineda said the provincial government through the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) will offer scholarship program for the children of the BHWs.

The BHW children who will comply with the PESO requirements will undergo 20 day-summer job program.

“Your children will be paid for their work performance during the period. We will prioritize your children as instructed by Nanay Gov,” Luningning Vergara, PESO Manager.

Pineda said their salary could augment for their tuition fees, allowances, uniforms, school supplies for their studies.

Bert Gatus, head of the Provincial Cooperative Entrepreneurial Development Office (PCEDO) said the capitol will also provide loan assistance for the BHWs so they could form small business as they do their job as champion of the Kapampangan when it comes to public health.

The governor said the BHWs will also undergo OB Check-up and x-ray to diagnose their health status.(Joel P. Mapiles / PIO Pampanga
