CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The provincial office of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) disclosed that the implementation of the election gun ban will begin today and shall last until November 12.
Lawyer Lydia Pangilinan in a previous interview said that carrying firearms including employing security personnel in public is prohibited.
She added that this is aimed at ensuring the safe conduct of barangays elections in Pampanga.
The election period is 30 days before the date of the elections and 15 days after.
Pangilinan reminded that filing of certificate of candidacy starts on October 15 until October 17.
Accordingly, it was learned that violation of the ban on carrying firearms and employing security personnel will be fined with one to six years imprisonment, permanent disqualification to hold public office, and deprivation of the right to vote.
Comelec Resolution No. 9735 provides that the gun owners who were given exemption during the May 13 elections will enjoy the privilege of carrying their guns outside of their residence during the conduct of the barangay elections without renewing their permits.
