LGU urges public works to coordinate on infra projects

CANDABA – The local government unit (LGU) here urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to observe protocol on coordination before implementing infrastructure projects in the municipality.

This came as the municipal engineering department yesterday discovered that the construction of farm to market roads in two barangays started without proper coordination with the LGU.

According to one of the municipal engineers, who requested not to be named, these projects were funded by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) but being implemented by DPWH.

This involves farm to market roads in the Barangays of Visal Sto. Nino and Salapungan. The residents in these communities mostly are farmers whose main source of livelihood is in farming.

“Ang problema lang natin ngayon ay nawawalan ng access road yung mga taga Pulong Gubat dahil sabay gumagawa ang DPWH at PEO. Yung DPWH sa Visal Sto. Nino at yung PEO sa Visal San Pablo. Nasa likod kasi ito kaya walang madaanan,” the engineer stated.

He suggested that implementing agencies must coordinate with each other in order not to cause inconvenience to the public.

As this developed, Mayor Jerry Pelayo drafted another letter addressed to DPWH Regional Director Antonio Molano Jr. and Engr. Rico Guilas urging them to follow the protocol before implementing infrastructure projects.

Pelayo in a previous meeting with the officials of DPWH clarified that he is not delaying the projects nor preventing the same from being carried out.

The mayor only wants to be informed of the on-going infrastructure projects just to make sure that they are in accordance with the approved local development agenda.
