CITY
OF SAN FERNANDO - Fourth District Congressman Juan Pablo "Rimpy" Bondoc
recently urged the local chief executives in towns near the San
Fernando-Sto. Tomas-Minalin Taildike to actively participate in the
concerted effort of saving the lives of their constituents.
The
statement was made by Bondoc in a meeting with the concerned local
officials attended by Minalin Mayor Edgar Flores, Sto. Tomas Vice Mayor
Mark Louie Arceo, Board Member Nestor "Bay" Tolentino among others.
The legislator presented a thorough analysis of the flooding problem in the third and fourth districts
of Pampanga caused by waters coming from the Porac, Pasig-Potrero and Gugu Rivers.
He
said there is massive flooding in this city, Minalin, Sto. Tomas,
Minalin, Macabebe and Masantol due to tremendous amounts of water coming
from the river flowing in the Megadike and downstream to the affected
areas.
"Kailangan keni saup
saup tamu. Kailangan magobra tamu para king kapakanan da ring kabalen tamu," he said.
Bondoc also suggested to re-open the Ventura River - as one of the original water channel draining Labuan River in Minalin.
"Sabyan tamu karela ibuklat ya ing Ventura River, iluwalas taya at dinan armor bangkanita tuloy tuloy ang dalan
ning danum," he stated.
Bondoc
also suggested that water should pass through Pasig-Potrero River out
to Labuan River, then to Sasmuan River going to Pasac River.
Pasig-Potrero River is heavily armored on both banks and has the capacity to convey the volume of water from Porac River.
This river is believed to be an ideal being located away of taildike sought to be protected.
Another problem is that Pasig-Potrero River is closed upstream inside the Megadike and the water is forced to flow to the left through Gugu Creek.
It was learned that the volume of water flowing from the Gugu Creek is too excessive and strong enough to destroy the transverse dike which is supposed to protect the former.
As this developed, it is likewise suggested that water should be diverted Pasig-Potrero upstream of the Gugu transverse dike.
