CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The provincial government welcomed the proposal
of the National Dairy Authority (NDA) to start a dairy industry in the
province.
Governor Lilia Pineda said the capitol through the provincial
veterinary office (PVET) will support the initiative as it is expected to
create economic opportunities beneficial to every Kapampangan.
“The provincial government is willing to give its counterpart on
the proposal. We just have to study it thoroughly for possible suggestions from
the capitol and some adjustments,” she added.
This came as Dr. Andrew Agato, manager of NDA North Luzon
field presented its dairy roadmap in Pampanga from 2010 up to 2016 that targets
the development of the industry.
It is a pilot project that will distribute cattle to animal
raiser-farmers cooperatives to their target towns such as Magalang, Porac,
Mabalacat City, Lubao, Floridablanca, Sta. Rita, Guagua, and this city.
Agato explained that it is time to develop the dairy industry in
the country for viable and sustainable dairy products knowing Pampanga has enough
lands to raise cattle and produce dairy
products.
“NDA aims to increase the number of dairy animals in the country
to at least minimize importation of dairy products. We are scouting good
locations and Pampanga is very good for the plan,” Agato said.
He added that without the support of the local government units
and the provincial government the initiative will be futile.
