CANDABA
– Thousands of indigent residents here yesterday had received cash grant from
the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and
Development (DSWD) under Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
Records
show that some 4,093 residents who were identified as poorest of the poor as a
result of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) carried out by
the national government.
NHTS-PR is an information management
system that identifies who and where the poor are nationwide.
The
distribution of the cash transfer was facilitated by the Municipal Social
Welfare and Development (MSWD) and representatives from the regional office of
the social works office.
It
was carried out in the presence of Mayor Rene Maglanque and other local
officials in town in three separate venues including Ms. Earth Park in Barangay
Mandasig and in two municipal extensions in Barangays Bahay Pare and
Salapungan.
4Ps
program is a flagship project of the national government on poverty reduction
and social development.
With
this, the national government through the DSWD provides conditional cash grant
to extremely poor households which is aimed at improving their health,
nutrition and education particularly children aged 0-14.
One of the key interventions
of 4Ps is the provision of small cash transfers to mothers, as long as they
commit to investing in their children, such as by ensuring their children go to
school, as well as get deworming, vaccination and regular health check-ups to
name a few other aspects of the program.
