Comelec asks village officials to share on poll expenses

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – An official from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here recently asked the village officials to share part of their resources to ensure the success of the holding of Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections.

Atty. Lydia Pangilinan, provincial election supervisor bared that  only more than P1-B has been allocated for the conduct of the upcoming elections.

This according to her is not enough to cover the expenses on Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections in the entire country with more than 40,000 barangays.

As this developed, the commission by virtue of a resolution is requiring every barangay to set  aside not less than P10,000 for the election but not more than 10 percent  of the available general  fund.

Meanwhile, the barangay officials who attended a general meeting the other day led by the provincial government expressed disagreement on the proposed sharing scheme by the Comelec.

They claimed that there is no budget for the purpose because the same is not considered in the previous barangay budget deliberations.

“Kung ganun pala ang plano nila dapat sinabi nila agad para nakapag allocate tayo ng pera dito. Pero ngayon wala tayong pagkukunan,” a barangay official who requested not to be named stated.

Another  village leader  stated that deferring the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections is the solution for the problem.
