FERNANDO– An official from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA)
yesterday bared that Pampanga gets at least P394-million support from the
Department of Agriculture (DA) for the past three years.
Crispin
Guinto, provincial agriculturist claimed that the strong partnership between DA
and the provincial government is benefiting the Kapampangan-farmers.
He said with DA’s
support, they were able to distribute village-type post harvest facilities,
combine harvesters, hand tractors with trailers, cassava granulators, four
wheel tractors and shallow tube wells (STWs).
Aside from
these, the farmers were also receiving other farm machineries and farm inputs from
the national government through DA to help boost their production in line with
the rice sufficiency program of President Benigno Aquino.
Report shows
that DA and OPA programs range from rice production, high value crops
development, fisheries, agribusiness, livelihood training, farm mechanization
and post harvest facilities, irrigation facilities, indigenous people agro
forestry, sampaguita production and bamboo development.
The provincial government, meanwhile provided equipment and
tools like as grinder pulverizers, units of STWs, power sprayers, irrigation
facilities and other planting materials.
Capitol likewise supported the fishery sector of the
province through the provision of fishing bottom gillnets, fingerling
dispersals, seminars and trainings.
The high value crops development program of the
administration was able to help 1, 932 vegetable growers and 100 schools under
the program Gulayan sa Paaralan.\
The OPA has also provided the farmers with seedlings,
organic and foliar fertilizers, insecticides, among others.
