CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -The Department of Education
(DepEd)-Pampanga Office recently clarified that public schools may still be used
by the evacuees but only as pick-up points.
DepEd Pampanga School Superintendent Malcom Garma
said that in extreme cases, local officials may temporarily bring their flooded
constituents to public schools while waiting to be transferred to the evacuation
center designated by the concerned local government unit.
Garma made this clarification in a meeting with
the provincial, municipal officials along with the barangay leaders held inside
the Clark Freeport Zone Monday.
“Schools can only be used as pick-up points for
evacuees but not as evacuation centers,” she noted.
It can be recalled that Garma earlier announced
that the use of public school classrooms as evacuation centers is no longer
allowed.
She first made this announcement during the
disaster preparedness meeting with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction
and Management Council (PDRRMC), Municipal Disaster Action Officers (MDAO),
Municipal Engineer.
The school superintendent stressed after flooding
season, they also need to clean the classrooms and repair damaged properties essential
to studies of the pupils.
This according to Garma could not be done
immediately with the prolong stay of the evacuees to public classrooms.
