CANDABA – Amidst the impending over flowing of
the Pampanga River, Candabenios offered to the rest
of the Kapampangans in the province tips on resiliency
and disaster preparedness to minimize the adverse
effects of another flooding season.
According to them, there is nothing that can be
exchanged with readiness in order to be safe at all times during calamities.
“Candaba is a big school for those who want to
learn resiliency,” Jayson Lacanilao a resident here noted.
The town of Candaba
is naturally a catch basin which to many serve as a gift of nature.
“Dito sa amin hindi gaano yung preparedness at
ina-apply naming ay adaptability. Kung baga dapat matuto kang mabuhay batay sa
hinihingi na pagkakataon,” Lacanilao explained.
It can be noted that before flood surfaces in
the swamp as a result of heavy downpour, they start preparing their fishing
gears, boats, flashlights, and foods for fishing expedition.
This shows the resiliency and flexibility of
these people in dealing with flood.
Candabenios consider annual flooding not as a perennial problem but
a way of life.
As this developed, the residents
here believed that if various municipal disaster teams wanted to learn more on
adaptability, it is worth to look on the vast experience
