Top cop: Pampanga still in election watch list

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Police Senior Superintendent Oscar Albayalde yesterday stated that the province of Pampanga is still in the election watch list in relation to the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan and Barangay elections.

He made this statement during the command conference attended by the provincial and municipal executives together with the respective chiefs of police.

He said he would also consider the inclusion of the town of Bacolor in the list of the immediate concern   following the shooting incident involving Mesalipit Barangay Captain Rodrigo L. Tongol and former councilmen Pedro S. Canlas and Merlito N. Pineda.

Agbayalde said that status of the province during the previous elections is still in effect and that the province would receive the same treatment from the law enforcement authorities  in so far as the next Sangguniang Kabataang and Barangay elections are concerned.

As this developed, the top cop declared that together with Governor Lilia Pineda – they would talk to some 5000 barangay officials to encourage them to push for a peaceful conducted of elections.

He also reminded those present during the conference that gun ban will be strictly implementated thirty days before and after elections.

It can be recalled that Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas tagged Pampanga  along with  Abra, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Cagayan,   Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Cavite, Masbate, Samar, Misamis Occidental, Maguindanao, Lanao Del Sur and Basilan as among the provinces in the country considered as “high risks”.

In Pampanga alone, eight towns and one city were previously identified by the police as election hot spots or high risks areas.

These include Candaba, San Simon, Mexico, Arayat, Sasmuan, Guagua, Magalang, Lubao and Mabalacat City.
