CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Board
Member Rosve Henson yesterday expressed support on the anti illegal recruitment
initiative as proposed by the office of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
This came as Atty. Filbert
Torres, a representative from the vice president’s office met with the
officials, local legislators of the provincial government and executives from
the regional offices of National Bureau of Investigation, Overseas
Workers Welfare Administration, Department of Labor and Employment and Pampanga Action Center for OFWs
Concerns.
Henson said he is willing to
propose a legislative measure that would activate or create barangay council
for illegal recruitment as the need arises.
“Basta kami po ay sumusuporta sa inyong
kampanyan laban sa illegal recruitment. Kung kailangang magpasa kami ng
ordinansa para rito ay gagawin naming,” the board member stated.
Torres explained that illegal recruitment
is ordinarily committed by a non licensee who engages in any recruitment
undertaking in exchange of something.
With this, he asked the
provincial government to strengthen the drive versus illegal recruitment up to
the grass root level.
Torres noted that illegal
recruitment most of the time is associated with sexual exploitation, child
abuse and force labor.
Meanwhile, Provincial Social
Welfare Officer Elizabeth Baybayan told Torres that there is an existing code
approved by the provincial government advocating protection to women and
children.
This according to her could
further supplement the initiative as supported by Board Member Henson.
